Hi all! It's really cool that there is a synthesizer forum in New Zealand. I'm from Australia, just stopped by to say hello. I'm into sports and love music. My friend has a synthesizer, sometimes we make music together!

Hiya,

Just stumbled across this forum while looking for some eurorack rails online. Thought Id sign up and see whats what.

My school had a Roland 100 system when I was a teenager. More years later than I care to admit I met a guy at work who was getting into modular (mostly DIY) so starting looking around again, mostly on MuffWiggler. I purchased the old 100 from my school but had to onsell it in those dark days with no income and a mortgage with kids.

Reawakened the interest after some inheritance came through that included soem spending money. Always had an idea to DIY a 100m clone but then found behringer had beaten me to it. Some boxes arrived from Amazon yesterday and I'm already planning on whats next!

Just trying to sort out a case over the holidays for the 4 100m modules I got, plus somewhere I've got some PCB's for the original Erica Polivoks, lots of Thonk Turing Machines and a Living VCO. If this goes well they may even get built!

Plan is to hook it up to Audulus on my Mac via a Motu interface to provide some modulation inputs. After thats its mostly about using it as a stress release; I dont think I'll ever get good enough to record or perform.

Cheers,

Evan

Hi, introductions are just the start...

Who are you?
My name is SamO; that's a synthesis of Samuel Ostermann. I have a BFA from Auckland Uni. I studied at Elam (currently Aotearoa/NZ's National Institute of Creative Arts)

Where did your synthesizer story start?
I've always had an interest in the synth "game", my Opa Max (grandad translated) successfully made one kitset synth (I guess you could term it WestCoast synthesis, solomnly) in the late 1970s when I was born. After that I found a couple of Uncles (Steve, Sami) that taught me here/hear an' there/ear and since then, many monkiers later, I have stopped renting and am now constructing my own.

As for myself, I both make/bend circuits (see attached video) and use a mix of analogue Modular (Doepfer is a fantastic), Semi-modular & just got a digital wave oscillator from Modal Electronics..! Which I reconmend as a solid piece, CraftSynth 2.0.

What kind of modular system are you planning?
I'm working on a series of distortion (those peaks in a band) Synths that can operate thru zero and as a rhythm builder for my soundtrack work as a film/video artist.

What's your favourite module or, if you're completely new to modular, what module are you planning to buy first?
I just got a couple of Journanalog pieces and they fit the bill as slew limiters go! (good for those sensitive envelope impressions), but Doepfer is a fav too.
