Seeking advice on 0.9 Nema17 stepper motors

Unread post by Max14 »

I have decided it is time to replace the 1.8 Nema17 stepper motors on the Z axis of my CoreXY machine.

My Z axis uses a GT20 belt and 608Z bearings. I believe upgrading to a NEMA17 0.9 stepper motor (https://www.oyostepper.com/category-6-b ... Motor.html) will give me better control over the Z resolution, but I am not sure how much current the motor will require compared to the 1.8 NEMA17 stepper I currently use. I am currently using 1A on 3 of the 4 machines with Duet 0.8.5 cards, and one larger machine is using 1.4A on a Duet 0.8.5. Will the current change if I change from a 1.8 to a 0.9?

And I am not interested in redesigning the Z axis with a leadscrew. I did some substantial re-engineering of the GT20 conveyor unit and am very happy with its performance, except that it seems to be inconsistent with anything less than 0.2 floors high.

Thanks for the help everyone
